The 1980's: Le Pochoir: Early Stencil Works
Bold stencil lines have long been a leitmotif of the Paul Harmon work. Delineated borders that define the contours and characteristics of the people, places and things that inhabit the artist’s life and imagination.
Cloisonné-like vibrant color and grayscale tones alike are seemingly trapped inside the stenciled bold lines. The effect is that symbols are made of his subjects. The woman is not necessarily only a particular woman but a graphic symbol for all women. An interior or landscape may be a specific one but it also symbolizes all such ambiances and environments.
