The 1990's: Themes and Variations
Coursing throughout all five decades of Paul Harmon’s work is a variety of recurring themes.
For an example, each year the artist has painted a work in homage to the history of art. He has chosen widely from Manet to prehistoric cave art, from Delacroix to Russian icons, from early American naive art to Giacometti.
Within any given year he may work on paintings based on the themes such as the chair, the kiss, the odalisque, the model in the studio, the studio itself and the walking man. They may be looked at together as a seamless and universal mural of the painter’s take on what it means to be human on the earth.
